Final notice of potential adverse effect on a historic property

The USDA Rural Utilities Service has received an application for financial assistance from the City of Big Falls. The proposal consists of refurbishing the existing pump house, adding a new water treatment plant, replacing the elevated water tower, replacing the water distribution system and adding water meters. The new treatment plant and water tower would be located just to the north and east of the existing water tower.Rural Development has assessed the environmental impacts of this proposal and determined that a new water tower should be built and the existing historic water tower be removed. It has been determined that there is no practicable alternative to avoiding this effect. The basis of this determination is the existing water tower has reached its expected useful life and it is not cost effective to repair and maintain it.
