PUBLIC HEARING OF THE KOOCHICHING COUNTY BOARD FOR PROPOSED EXPANSION OF THE FIRE PROTECTION TAXING DISTRICT FOR RAINY LAKE ISLAND PROPERTIES
The Koochiching County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. in the Courthouse Boardroom located at 715 4th Street, International Falls, Minnesota for the purpose of receiving public comment on whether the current Fire Protection Taxing District should be expanded to service the  Rainy Lake Island Properties with dwellings. Â
The proposal would assess an annual service charge (current rate $85) to the property for fire protection according to the policies and procedures established by the Rural Fire Protection Association, contracted by the County to manage the fire protection service area within the taxing district. The Rural Fire Protection Association will provide fire protection to the properties by means of a fire fighting boat and firefighters through the navigational months of the year.
The proposed expansion of the Fire Protection Taxing District will include the Rainy Lake Island properties with dwellings within the following described area: Sections 4, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 19, 20, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 34 of Township 70, Range 22; Section 35, Township 71, Range 22; Sections 13, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, Township 71, Range 23.  Â
Oral comments will be received during the hearing and written comments may be submitted to the Administration Office, Courthouse, and 715 4th Street, International Falls, MN 56649. Deadline for submitting written comment is Monday, July 9, 2012.
