Gerald Francis Ginter, of International Falls, Minn., passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society-International Falls, at the age of 91 years.
He was born Nov. 21, 1927, in International Falls, to parents, Martin and Martha (Balaski) Ginter.
He attended Falls schools and graduated in 1945.
Gerald married Doris Dardis in 1949 and had five children.
Gerald began working in the Falls Insulite mill and then soon joined the Navy at age 17. He served overseas for 18 months during World War II. Upon his return from the military, he continued on at the Insulite mill for 40 more years, until his retirement in 1985.
In his earlier years, Gerald loved hunting, fishing, curling, and bowling. For a number of years he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed watching all sports and rarely, if ever, missed his children’s sporting events.
He and Doris loved traveling to Arizona during the winter months. Doris died in 2015.
Gerald lived at his home independently until he fell and broke his hip this spring.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother; three sisters; and his daughter, Janet Wagner.
He is survived by one sister, Eleanor Murray; his four sons, Jerry (Carolyn), Ronald (Jill), David (Jane) and Patrick. Gerald also has 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by his loved ones.
A funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, July 1, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time.
Interment with full military rites will be in the Veterans of Foreign Wars section of Forest Hill Cemetery.
