Joyce Einarson

Joyce Einarson

Joyce Lucille Einarson, 88, of International Falls, Minn., died Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Chris Jensen Rehab Center, Duluth, Minn.

Joyce was born Feb. 16, 1931, in International Falls to parents William A. and Gertrude M. (Blake) Napper. She was the fifth of 12 children and grew up in International Falls.

On April 14, 1951, Joyce married Francis William Einarson. He taught Joyce how to drive when they were dating, and she still married him!

Together they had five children — Twila “Pia”, Franella “Piper”, Francis James, Tucky and Thor.

Joyce was never a stranger to hard work. She instilled in her children the value of faith, family, and hard work. She attended schools in Littlefork and International Falls, putting aside her studies a number of times and returning to the workforce to provide funds for her parents, at one time purchasing eyeglasses for her younger sisters. She eventually earned her GED equivalency at 68 years old.

Her early career as a telephone operator and direct sales entrepreneur, provided financial support for her growing family.

She enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, and the needle arts. Joyce was a natural with a sewing machine, where she created clothing for her five growing children.

She was a member of Mission Covenant Church (now the Evangelical Covenant), and Eastern Star. A tireless church worker, Joyce served in many circles, and opened their home to missionaries serving from around the world, giving her children their first experience of a world view of life.

A small woman only in stature, she was a Certified Home Health Aide for Koochiching County, providing personal cares to patients two and three times her size.

The matriarch of the Einarson family, she stood beside her husband Francis as he built a career in aviation and community service.

Joyce loved to sing! As a young mother, she knew the value of music and the arts, providing tickets to the Border Concert Series and other cultural events.

She encouraged her children to attend Bluewater Bible Camp beginning at 9 years old, their first time away from home.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gertrude; husband, Francis William Einarson; brothers, Glen, Myron, John, Billy, Blake and Wallace; and sister, Gladys.

She is survived by her children, Twila L. (Harley) Peterson, Franella M. Einarson, Francis J. (Mary) Einarson, Tucky J. Dill, Thor W. (Karina) Einarson; seven grandchildren, Ariel Mio, Jonathan Mio, Elizabeth Einarson, Drake Dill (and fiancé Whitney Mostad), Anna (Tim) Wilcox, Amanda Rognerud and Taylor Rognerud; four great-grandchildren, Westley, Benjamin, Elaine and Juliet Wilcox; brother, Byron; sisters, Shirley, Maxine and Kay (Alice).
