Larry Kliner

Lawrence “Larry” Michael Kliner Jr., 64, of Bagley, Minn., went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, June 24, 2019, surrounded by his family at the Sanford Medical Center, Bemidji, Minn., after a year and a half fight with cancer.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel, Bagley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Grace Chapel, Bagley, with a visitation one hour prior to the services at the church.

The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.

Larry was born in International Falls, Minn., on Nov. 17, 1954, the son of Lawrence and Edna (Gardner) Kliner.

He was baptized as an infant at St. Thomas Catholic Church in International Falls.

He was a 1973 graduate of Falls High School. He graduated from Rainy River Community College in 1974 with a degree in small engines.

As an adult he was baptized into the Mennonite Church in 1973.

He married his high school sweetheart, Leila Yoder, on Nov. 22, 1974.

Larry and Leila lived their first five years of marriage in Fort Wayne, Ind., where they had their first child, Laura, in 1976. They moved to the Bagley area in 1979 and homesteaded their current home on Walkerbrook Valley Road where they welcomed daughters Lisa in 1980 and Linda in 1981.

Larry had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends, including excursions into the Boundary Waters and Canada.

Larry loved working with his hands, and by his dad’s side, remodeled and built several buildings in the Bagley and surrounding area.

He loved building furniture and tinkering in the garage on various projects.

His love of maple syrup turned into a passion, which he shared with his grandchildren and community through the area’s farmers market and craft shows.

He is survived by his wife, Leila (Yoder) Kliner of Bagley; his daughters, Laura (Tom) Kacik of International Falls, Lisa (Paul) Rother of Bemidji and Linda (Jesse) Behm of Warroad, Minn.; honorary daughter, Ruth (Matt) Christensen of Stillwater, Minn.; his grandchildren, Dylann, Wyatt, Sean, Sara, Rowan, Connor, Abby, Owen and Lanora; his parents, Lawrence and Edna Kliner Sr.; his siblings, Sheila (Robert) Dahlen of Goodridge, Minn., Jackie (Jerry) Nord of Omaha, Neb., and Rick (Coreen) Kliner of Bagley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved niece, Racheal Kliner; grandparents, William and Emma Gardner, and Leslie and Elsie Kliner; and his In-laws, Herman and Charlett Yoder.
