Mary Lynn Carey, 68, of International Falls, Minn., passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at Essentia-St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth, Minn.
Mary was born Nov. 9, 1950, in Fosston, Minn., to parents Leonard and Margie (Hvezda) Navratil. She grew up in Bagley, Minn.
She was united in marriage to Henry Carey on Dec. 5, 1969, and they moved to International Falls in 1972. They welcomed their son Paul on Sept. 5, 1974.
Mary was an accountant at Falls Lumber for 27 years.
She enjoyed hunting for deer and grouse. She loved gardening, and loved her grandkids dearly. She made mission quilts, and knitted prayer shawls.
Mary loved traveling, having been to Alaska, the Grand Canyon, and many places in Arizona.
She loved her dog “Maggie” and spoiled her.
Mary was a treasurer for the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association for 30 years, and was an active member of First Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jeannie; and grandma, Lavina.
Mary is survived by her husband, Henry; son, Paul (Kimberly) Carey; grandchildren, Jadah and Gavin; brothers, Dennis (Sally) Navratil, Mike (Rebecca) Navratil and Allen (Paula) Navratil; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at First Lutheran Church.
