William G. Murray

William G. Murray, 90, of Bemidji , Minn., died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Grand Arbor in Alexandria surrounded by his family.

Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Bemidji, with Fr. Craig Vasek officiating.

Visitation took place one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment is at Holy Cross Cemetery, Bemidji, under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home, Bemidji.

Bill was born Aug. 16, 1922, in Bemidji, the son of John and Anna (Herrmann) Murray.

The family moved to Fort Frances, Ontario, in 1935, where he attended school and graduated from Fort Frances High School in 1940.

Bill served with the United States Army Air Force during World War II where he was a flight officer with the 423rd Bombardment Squadron stationed in England. He was lead bombardier for the squadron in the European Theater with 29 missions over Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.

He was honorably discharged in 1945.

He married Eleanor Ginter Jan. 22, 1948, in International Falls, Minn.

He worked for 39 years as the assistant Koochiching County engineer; retiring in 1987.

They moved to Bemidji in 1994.

He was a member of St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Bemidji.

He loved square dancing, playing cards with friends and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor; daughter, Kathy (Brian) Berg of Cambridge; sons, Bob (Pam) of Bemidji and Jim (Elizabeth) of Alexandria; sister, Peggy Edens of Ranier; brothers-in-law, Gerald Ginter of International Falls and Leonard Vnuk of Little Falls; sister-in-law, Florence Beaulieu of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Jim (Andrea) Berg of Brooklyn Park, Matthew Murray of Bemidji, Michelle (Reis) Beeler of Cambridge, Rebecca (Tim Hambly) Murray of Germany, Patrick Murray of Minnetonka and William Murray of Fargo; great-grandchildren, Kellan Berg, Cullen Beeler and another on the way.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Sanford Bemidji Hospice and Homecare.

Bill’s family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful care both Bemidji and Alexandria hospice gave Dad.
