Beverly Mayfield was overjoyed Tuesday.

The envoy of the local Salvation Army just tallied up donations from the third annual “fill the ambulance” toy drive and was excited about the results.

The drive, which collected toys and monetary donations outside Kmart Friday and Saturday, generated $734 and 448 items.

“I’m so excited,” Mayfield said.

The toys and money will be used to stock a toy shop that will be set up at St. Thomas Aquinas Hall Dec. 22. Families in need will be able to visit the setup and select toys for their children.

The drive was organized by local emergency responders in an effort to give back to their community.
