During a Truth in Taxation hearing Wednesday, the Littlefork-Big Falls School Board sets its 2013 levy at $545,823. The final amount is about 7 percent more than the proposed levy of $507,797 the board set in September.

“Our total levy accounts for only 12 percent of the revenues received by the district,” Superintendent Fred Seybert told The Journal in an email. “The remainder of dollars received by the district is primarily state and federal monies.”

During the regular meeting that followed the Truth in Taxation hearing, the board was updated on the air-control and ventilation system.

Seybert reports that in cold weather climates, it is important to ensure that the proper heating mechanisms are in place and functioning properly.

“That is occurring in our school as noted by a recent audit by a firm specializing in that area,” he said. “Further studies may be addressed to continually monitor this situation.”

Seybert concluded that the board discussed the need to address and review cost-cutting measures for the 2013-2014 school year.

“No specific information was discussed, but examples for review include sports programs and, in particular, transportation,” he said.
