Ministry seeks public's help in abandoned moose incident

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is seeking the public’s help in identifying the person or persons responsible for shooting and abandoning a cow moose Dec. 12 or early Dec. 13.

The carcass was found beside a disused railway bed four kilometres west of Dog River Road, near Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Members of the public notified the ministry’s TIPS line of the abandoned moose Dec. 13. Conservation officers were able to salvage the carcass before it spoiled.

Evidence at the kill site indicated that a second moose was shot and field dressed beside the abandoned moose and hauled away on a homebuilt trailer.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact the MNRF TIPS line at 1-877-847-7667 toll-free any time or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Also call the ministry’s Thunder Bay District Office during regular business hours at 807-475-1471.
