Free food available to low income seniors

The Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors provides free food for low income seniors. NAPS has over 300 openings in International Falls and the surrounding area.

NAPS, for low income seniors, 60 or older, is a United States Department of Agriculture free food program that distributes canned fruits and vegetables, juice, milk, cheese, cereal, rice, pasta, meat and peanut butter.

Participants must be residents of Minnesota and meet Federal Income Guidelines in order to qualify.

NAPS distribution is from 1:30 to 3 p.m. the first Thursday after the first Tuesday at the Falls Hunger Coalition, 1000 Fifth St.

Registration is available on-site during distribution, or participants may pre-register by calling Second Harvest North Central Food Bank at 218-326-4420, ext. 22.

Participants should have gross monthly household income information available when applying. Applicants must provide proof of name, date of birth and address at first appointment.

SCHOOL BOARD SPECIAL MEETING

The Falls School Board will meet from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Falls High School library for continuation of strategic planning and goal development by the Blue Ribbon Panel with guidance from a Minnesota School Board Association representative. No official action will be taken. The board will also meet from 5:30 to 8 March 6 in Room 130 at FHS to hold a budget work session for the 2016 fiscal year expenditure budget. No official action will be taken.

CHILI FEED

A Chili Feed fund raiser for the Rainy River Community College Voyageur women’s hockey team going to Nationals in York, Pa., is planned for 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at RRCC Commons. Free will offering will be accepted.

‘ROLLIN’ FOR FURBALLS’

A Borderland Humane Society fund raiser, “Rollin’ for Furballs,” is planned for noon to 4:30 p.m. March 8 at Timber Pins. All monies will go towards the new Holding Facility. Jackpot bowling meets cosmic bowling. For more information, call or text Kallie at 218-324-2949 or Robin, 283-2269.
