Take a deep breath. Grab a book and spend 10 minutes reading. Your holidays will seem brighter and more joyful if you allow yourself time to relax and breathe occasionally. The library can help by keeping you stocked with great books, magazines and more.
The holidays can be very busy but taking time to relax and escape can keep you enjoying the busy times. Magazines can be a great option this time of year. We have over 70 subscriptions to magazines, everything from People and Time to Air & Space and Canada’s History to Martha Stewart and Taste of Home.
Come find a new recipe to try, a new decorating idea, learn a cool fact to share with relatives this holiday season or just borrow a magazine and escape for a few minutes or an hour. Magazines check out for a week at a time so swing in on your way past the library and check one (or more) out today.
Magazines are also available online for those who choose to do much of their reading electronically. The library shares a subscription to Zinio with the other libraries in the Arrowhead Library System with over 75 different magazines available for download. Take a look at our website http://internationalfallslibrary.us for details about Zinio, our e-book program Overdrive and other resources available online. These can be great options both for everyday use but also when traveling.
We have also created a display of holiday titles with everything from cookbooks to decorating books to novels. Come read a classic holiday story or see if your favorite author has a holiday offering, many do.
The library can also be a relaxing place to just get away. Do you have an hour that isn’t scheduled? Come to the library and spend time browsing the books, magazines, movies or settle down in a comfy chair and read. We can provide you with relative quiet and hopefully fewer distractions.
The library offers a variety of science and learning kits for checkout. These kits checkout for three weeks and provide a hands-on learning experience in some basic science skills. The kits are for a variety of ages including a few for preschoolers with the majority of the kits for children ages 8 and up. The kits might be a wonderful way to spend some quality time with a grandchild this holiday season. Discover a new interest or build on an existing interest by borrowing a kit and sharing it with a child in your life. You can build a marble run, explore circuitry, view the stars and other extraterrestrial objects, build a robot and more.
Thank you to all who contributed to Project Bookshelf. We know that books in the home are very important in building early reading skills, so thank you. And if you have infants – preschoolers in your life make sure they are signed up for “Reading Ready,” our program that provides free books to children until they enter kindergarten for being read books.
Pet of the Week
Hi, I am starting my life all over again — it seems weird, but maybe this time I will find the perfect home? My name is “Asuna” — here is what it means: A is for acquaintance, they many friends you know; S is for smile, it gives you face value; U is for uncanny, the genuine side of me; N is for natural, the genuine side of me; and A is for admirable, I certainly am (themeaningofnames.org). I think the name fits me well — I have made many new cat and dog friends, I have a great personality and I am genuine. Did I mention I am also easy on the eyes? I just want so much attention, I just wiggle and I can’t sit still. Always – Asuna

In loving memory of our dear wife and mother, Doris Aklestad, who passed away Dec. 10, 2004.
Our lives go on without you,
But nothing is the same;
We have to hide our heartache,
When someone speaks your name.
Sad are the hearts that love you,
Silent the tears that fall;
Living our hearts without you,
Is the hardest part of all.
You did so many things for us,
Your heart was kind and true;
When we needed someone,
We could always count on you.
The special years will not return,
When we were all together;
But with the love within our hearts,
You will walk with us forever.
Lovingly remembered by
Husband Gene
Daughters, Barb and Bonnie
In loving memory of Irene S. Jensen, who passed away Dec. 12, 2013.
Missing You Mom!
Every day without you,
Since you had to go;
Is like summer without sunshine,
And winter without snow.
We wish that we could talk to you,
There’s so much we would say;
Life has changed so very much,
Since you went away.
We miss the bond between us,
And we miss your kind support;
You’re in our mind and in our heart,
And every waking thought.
We’ll always feel you close to us,
And though you’re far from sight;
We’ll search for you among the stars,
That shine on starry nights.
It’s already been one year since you went to be with the Lord!
We miss you dearly,
Rudean, Robin, Rhonda, Randi
and our families
