After School Arts begin at Backus

After School Arts classes begin Monday at Backus Community Center.

A variety of classes will be offered to students in kindergarten through grade 5. Betsy Ward is coordinator of the program.

Classes are: “Imagination Station” which includes art, music, movement and stories; “Crazy Paper” with collage, print-making, weaving and sculpture; “Painting” — acrylic and oils and the ever popular video game “Minecraft” brought to life through art.

This program is sponsored in part by the Northland Foundation.

Flyers have been sent to area school students Class information and registration form can be accessed on the Backus website, www.backusab.org.

Scholarships are available.

BSU dean’s list includes local area students

The following area students were named to the dean’s list at Bemidji State University at the conclusion of the 2014 fall semester.

Jared Ecklund graduates from U of M Crookston

Jared Ecklund, International Falls, graduated during fall semester 2014 from the University of Minnesota Crookston with a bachelor of science in natural resources.

Area students receive BSU degrees

The following area students completed undergraduate degree requirements at Bemidji State University and graduated at the conclusion of the 2014 fall semester.

Burke Bolstad, International Falls, received a bachelor of science degree in business administration and Jennifer Horne, Littlefork, received a bachelor of science degree in accounting.

Maki receives WITC scholarship

Nick Maki, of International Falls, received a Dan Maynard Memorial Welding Scholarship from Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College for the spring 2015 semester.

Maki is enrolled in the welding program.

Skurkis named to president’s list

Cheryl Skurkis, of Littlefork, was named to the 2014 fall president’s list at Riverland Community College, Austin.

To be eligible for the president’s list, students must have completed 12 credits per semester with letter grades and have earned a grade point average of 4.00 on a 4.00 scale.
