Contestants in a fashion show event Friday weren’t the typical runway walkers. Prior to the ‘Twas the Lights Before Christmas parade, about 20 dogs and their owners promenaded along International Falls main street showcasing their best holiday outfits.

“The pet contest was insanely cute with clever dog costumes,” said Faye Whitbeck, president of the International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.

Among the best dressed four legged models was “Kubby” a black Labrador owned by Minnesota Rep. David Dill and his wife, Tucky.

With temperatures hovering right around 10 degrees, the dogs got a chance to warm up in Shannon Square where the judging took place, said Whitbeck.

First-place went to "Pac Man" owned by Sophie Fredrickson and "Pippy" owned by Grace and Aubrie Nyugen.

“That was a good move to get inside where it was warm,” she said. “Next year, we need to build the public viewing attendance. Cars and shoppers were stopping on main street while the pets were walked, but then we disappeared inside. It really needs to be enjoyed because it is so charming and all dogs were on their best behavior.”

Holger Olesen of Birchdale, will host an acoustic show at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Dungeon at Backus Community Center. In addition to the Sloughgrass member’s music, a Christmas laser show will be offered. Olesen will play some of his favorite songs on the resonator guitar, sing and share his music. Suggested donations are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Refreshments will be served.
