Indus enjoys Frosty Fest
  • Updated

Frosty Fest, a midwinter event sponsored by Indus Student Council and Indus Community Education, provided an entertaining evening for the community Jan. 22.

Included in the festivities were entertainment by musician and storyteller Jack Pearson of the Twin Cities, food prepared by Indus ProStart students, along with Chef Ray of Concordia Language Villages in Bemidji and Indus Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Lois Lewis, and outdoor recreation such as broomball, skating, and cross-country skiing.

On the menu were “Snow on the Mountain,” a shredded chicken and rice dish topped with various vegetable and fruit condiments, as well as “Fire on the Mountain,” which was chicken and vegetables prepared with a sauce “Mongolian-style” over butane burners and served over rice. The latter dish was the most popular choice because it was cooked by Indus ProStart students on the spot and they made the sauces for the menu, assisted by Chef Ray. Student Council students worked with admissions, setup and serving.

Chef Ray also spent three days working with ProStart students during the week, helping them to plan and perfect their menu for the upcoming Sysco Invitational Cookoff in February, according to Lewis.

Pearson, who had performed during an afternoon assembly for elementary students, brought a variety of musical instruments to the evening performance and even took on requests for songs such as “I’m My Own Grandpa!”

The weather cooperated for some outdoor fun with a brisk game of broomball in the arena, and for others skating or skiing at the end of the evening.

Indoor activities were planned by students, as well, for those who didn’t want to brave the outdoor temperatures.
