Erik Nelson of Togo gives one of his dogs some attention before hitting the trail Saturday. Nelson, who finished in 12th place, was part of three generations racing in the third-annual event. His mother, Jamie Nelson, who is known locally for giving Santa Claus a ride in the Twas the Lights Before Christmas Parade, finished fifth in the event and Erik's 14-year-old daughter Elizabeth, finished in 11th place.
