International Falls resident Steve Lucachick, 93, died this morning at Falls Good Samaritan Center.

Rainy Lake Women’s Club met for its regular meeting at the home of Margaret Smrstik with Margaret Wietecha assisting hostess. President Darlene Stoiber opened the meeting by leading members in the flag salute and the club collection.

The gulls are back! At 3:15 p.m. today, Lloyd Stein reported the first sure sign of spring in Borderland. Lloyd sighted the first gulls to appear on Rainy Lake after returning from work. He spotted about 25 of the feathered creatures at the Department of Natural Resources station near Second Bridge.

50 YEARS AGO

A picture of Bill Crowe, new owner of Esslinger’s Resort on Lake Kabetogama, will appear in the Minneapolis Tribune’s Picture Sunday magazine. The picture shows Crowe snowmobiling a sled of supplies to members of the Sierra Club who camped in Little Shoepack Lake.

60 YEARS AGO

Fate of the proposal to build a $2 million International Falls senior high school will be settled in a special bond election tomorrow. Recommended by local school officials and the state department of education, the proposed expansion program was announced after three years of study on the problem of increasing enrollment. Estimated period to build the new high school is two and one-half years.

Home from Concordia College at Moorhead for Easter vacation are Miss Victoria Clauson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Clauson, and Miss Dorothy Weum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Weum.
