Accelerated Reader

Two first graders at Indus School, Chase Steinbach and Shamia Puchkoff, earned Accelerated Reader T-shirts May 18. The first graders must earn 50 AR points to receive a T-shirt. Each book the first graders read is worth .5 points. Students read a book, take a comprehension test on the book and receive points. Students usually do AR reading Friday mornings for about an hour. Their teacher, Kim Brown, says, “The first graders work very hard earning AR points, all of them. I am very proud of the first graders. They are good readers, enjoy reading AR books and taking the tests.” Priscilla Hoffmann, Title I aide and AR afterschool coordinator, is shown in the photo with the two youngsters.
