Anthony James Vacek, 31, Virginia, Minn., passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012, with his family at his side at the Methodist Hospital/Mayo Clinic Rochester, Minn., due to complications after a bone marrow transplant. Anthony was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia in April of 2011.
Anthony was born July 27, 1980, to Thomas and Louise (Geilfuss) Vacek in Albert Lea, Freeborn County, Minn.
Anthony graduated from Falls High School in 1999, attended Rainy River Community College and Northland Community and Technical College in Grand Forks where he received his diploma in welding technology. Anthony was an ironworker for seven years and a proud member of Iron Worker’s Local 512.
Anthony enjoyed his time spent with family and friends. He also enjoyed being in the woods, and on Rainy Lake and on Rainy River and riding his dirt bikes and four-wheelers.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Anthony is survived by his parents, Louise and Thomas Vacek of International Falls; his fiancée, Mandy Newell; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Thank you to everyone who helped, express concerns, and offered prayers throughout his illness. They were greatly appreciated.
Visitation took place from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Green-Larsen Mortuary, with prayer service at 6:30.
Memorial services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, April 23, at St. Thomas Catholic Church.
