Barbara Gail Nelson

Barbara Gail Nelson, 65, of Big Falls, Minn., passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth, Minn.

Barbara was born Sept. 17, 1946, in Austin, Texas. She grew up in North Carolina, Texas, Kentucky and Germany.

Barbara graduated from Frankfurt High School in Germany in 1964.

The former Barbara G. Cook married Charles Nelson on Feb. 14, 1965 in Austin, Texas.

In 1969, they moved to Big Falls, where they have resided since.

Barbara worked at the Days Inn as housekeeping manager.

She enjoyed needlework and crocheting, collecting cookie jars, Texas memorabilia and watching Spanish cooking shows.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse James and Dorothy Cook; and a nephew, David Van Dyke.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Charles Nelson; daughter, Teckla Brown of Big Falls; granddaughter, Megan Brown of Hibbing, Minn.; brothers, James (Rocio) Cook of Liberty Hill, Texas, and Thomas (Ann) Cook of Del Valle, Texas; sister, Faye (Damon) Cochran of Cedar Park, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Big Falls Community Building.
