Bernard Sjoblom
Bernard "Benny" Sven Sjoblom, 75, of International Falls, Minn., died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at his home.
 
Benny was born July 13, 1937, to Sven and Ethel (Hoglund) Sjoblom in Ericsburg, Minn.
 
He attended school in International Falls and graduated in 1955. After graduation, he worked for many individual contractors doing construction, carpentry, and cement work.
 
Benny served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he was self-employed.
 
Benny married Valerie Walker on March 11, 1972, in International Falls.
 
In 1976 he was hired at Boise Cascade and retired in 2000 as a heavy equipment operator.
 
Benny enjoyed going to his cabin (Grindstone Getaway), snowmobiling, riding motorcycles, and he was an old car enthusiast.
 
He enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren, and deer hunting.
 
Survivors include Benny’s wife, Valerie Sjoblom; son, Jason (Heather) Sjoblom; grandchildren, Owen and Celia Sjoblom and Joshua Bragg; sisters, Beverly Bzdok and Gail (David) Shipley, and brother, Duane (Tammy) Sjoblom, all of International Falls; aunt, Signe Skoglund of Ranier, Minn.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
 
Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Sven and Ethel Sjoblom; father-in-law; mother-in-law; grandparents, Gustav and Brita Sjoblom and Sigford and Ange Hoglund; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
 
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at First Lutheran Church.  
 
Memorials in Benny’s memory are preferred to Falls Hunger Coalition or Borderland Humane Society.
