Charles Martell

 

Charles Andrew Martell died Sunday, March 11, 2012.

He was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Wessington Springs, S.D., to Edward and Anna Martell.

As a teenager he spent his summers in Wildwood with his Aunt Dody and Uncle Miles where he met his future wife, Inez Logdahl.

After graduating from Milbank (South Dakota) High School in 1944, he served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946.

He started working for Boise Cascade in International Falls, Minn., in 1953.

On Oct. 2, 1954, he married Inez at Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls. There they made their home raising two children, Stuart and Suzanne.

Charles retired as a cost accountant from Boise Cascade in 1985.

When Inez retired in 1992 they sold their home in International Falls and built their log home in Wildwood.

Charles enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, camping, traveling, bowling, golfing, and reading. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching television. He took great pride in his garden.

Charles was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, American Legion, and the National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert, Gene and Kenneth; and sisters, Genevive and Phyllis.

He is survived by his wife, Inez, Wildwood; son, Stuart (Julie) Martell, Wildwood); daughter, Suzanne (Mark) Rosnow, Bemidji; three grandchildren, Rhonda (Carl) Conn, Tracey (Swede) Carlson, and Gene Martell; seven great-grandchildren, Melissa and Christopher Conn, Zoe, Cloe, Emery, Jaden, and Henry Carlson, all of Bemidji; his sister, Helen; brother, Roy; sister, Rita; brother, Lyle; sister, Rosalie; and many nieces and nephews.

The memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Hope Lutheran Church, Northome, Minn.

Funeral arrangements are being made by Carroll Funeral Home in Deer River, Minn.
