A funeral service for Clyde W. Shepard, 77, of Columbia, S.C., will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012, in the chapel of Kornegay & Moseley Funeral Home & Cremation Service with the Rev. Don Waterhouse officiating.
Burial will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 18, at the funeral home.
Mr. Shepard passed away Friday, June 15, at is home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Feb. 24, 1935, in International Falls, Minn., and was the son of the late William Henry and Dorothy Marian Shepard.
Mr. Shepard served in the Marine Corps and the Army, having retired after 24 years of service.
While in the military he was awarded the National Defense Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (4 Stars), Vietnam Campaign Medal W/DVC 60, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry W/Palm, Presidential Unit Citation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Navy Unit Commendation.
After his military service, Mr. Shepard went to work for the South Carolina Department of Corrections where he retired from also.
Mr. Shepard is survived by his wife, Olga Shepard; children, Joanne Brachel, William (Sheri) Shepard and Patty Mailly; grandchildren, Jennifer, Caroline, Kierstin, Cody and Hunter; great grandchild, London Grace; and sisters, Diane Nissen and Shannon Butler.
