Don “Donnie” Hull, 74, of International Falls, Minn., died Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Rainy Lake Medical Center, following a short battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 17, 1938, in Margie, Minn.
Don was united in marriage to Shirley Hardy on June 14, 1958. They have two children, Don Hull Jr. and Jim Hull (Laurie Kennedy), and two grandchildren, Brandon Hull and Stacey Hull.
Don was employed by Dick DeBenedet as a plumber for two years, Mando/Boise Cascade in the Insulite department for 16 years, did carpentry work building and remodeling homes, was used car salesman and repairman, caretaker at Forest Hill Cemetery for eight years, and was owner/operator of Don’s Welding business, specializing in fabrication and aluminum welding, for 30 years up until three months before his death.
Don also has two inventions with patents issued.
He enjoyed spending time with friends, family and grandchildren, being at the cabin, four-wheeling, cutting firewood, hunting, being outdoors, playing cards, welding and collecting old coins.
He was always bubbly, enjoying jokes, laughing and just having fun visiting with everyone.
He was preceded in death by his son, Don Hull Jr.; parents, Bill and Rena Hull; brothers, Tom Hull, Ken Hull and Clarence Hull; sister, Darlene Frick (Doug); and his beloved pet dog, “BJ.”
Don is survived by his wife, Shirley Hull; son, Jim Hull (Laurie) of Grand Rapids, Minn.; grandchildren, Brandon Hull of St. Cloud, Minn., and Stacey Hull of Grand Rapids, Minn.; brothers, Wayne Hull of Sturgis, S.D., and Bob Hull of International Falls, Minn.; and sisters, Florence Wood of International Falls, Minn., and Eva Swan of Vallejo, Calif.
A celebration of Don’s life will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Thunderbird Lodge, International Falls, Minn., in the banquet room. Feel welcome to bring stories, memories and photos to share.
