Donald Fiester

Donald E. Fiester, age 77, of Coon Rapids, died peacefully Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at his residence with his wife and children at his side.

Donald was born Dec. 18, 1935, in Sumner, Iowa, to parents Harold and Leona (Covel) Fiester.

He attended school in Michigan before joining the United States Army in 1953 at the age 17. He served his country from Jan. 8, 1953, to April 5, 1956.

He met and married Ruby Roderick on Oct. 19, 1961, in International Falls.

Donald worked as a mechanic for Garwood Twin Cities and later owned Rapid Way Disposal in Coon Rapids.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Cooties.

He loved woodworking, cars, his family and church.

Donald is survived by his wife, Ruby; children, Don (Penny) of McGregor, Connie (friend Mike) of Anoka, Nick (Amy) of Big Lake and Rick (Mindy) of Circle Pines; brother, George (Bonnie) Kostin of Bemidji; his 16 grandchildren, Donny, Tina, Aime, Jeremy, Jason, Janice, Seth, Sabrina, Kyle, Anthony, Aleasha, Andrew, Autumn, Abby, Aiden and Avery; his 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Leona; two sisters, Jean Frisch and Esther Husar; and brother, Duane Fiester.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Saturday, Oct. 26, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2742 Yellowstone Blvd., Anoka.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at church Saturday.

Interment will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Round Lake Cemetery, McGregor.

Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army or the Disabled American Veterans.
