Dorothy Shermoen

Dorothy L. (McConn) Shermoen, age 85, of Grand Forks, N.D., passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at home under the care of Altru Hospice Services.

Dorothy was born May 2, 1927, in Mason City, Iowa, to Vera (Nelson) and Ralph McConn.

She grew up and attended school in Fairmount, N.D., graduating in 1945.

Dorothy was married to Jerome Shermoen for 17 years.

She graduated from the University of North Dakota with her son Steven in 1971. She taught home economics in the East Grand Forks Public School District from 1971 to 1993.

She was a charter member of the Quilters Guild of North Dakota and a founding member of the North Star Quilters Guild in Grand Forks.

Dorothy is survived by sons, Steven (Nancy) and Scott; daughter, Susan McMenamy; granddaughter, Erica (Patrick) White; grandsons, Mike, Andy (Kelly), Matt (Desiree), Philip, Evan Shermoen and Ryan Franklin; great-grandchildren, Ellery, Reese, William, Charlie, Devin and Ciaran; and brother, Robert (Bernie) McConn and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Christopher Shermoen; and son-in-law, Patrick McMenamy.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at University Lutheran Church, Grand Forks .
