Fr. Tom Meyer, OMI, who served in the parishes of St. Thomas Aquinas in International Falls and St. Columban’s in Littlefork, released his energy to His Creator on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at his home in Belleville, Ill.
Fr. Tom was born Aug. 4, 1938, and was preparing to celebrate his 42nd anniversary of ordination on Sept. 8.
During his years in I. Falls, he was part of the ministerial team that initiated the ecumenical Lenten soup suppers that continue to the present day. Community was of prime importance to Tom; relationship super-ceded rules. He was a beloved priest, an authentic person with compassion who sincerely cared for others.
He loved his time in this area, enjoying the lake and fishing whenever possible. He missed the many friends he had made through church, the Lions club, and volunteer work when declining health required him to retire at the Oblate House in Belleville.
Tom is survived by four sisters and three brothers, all in the St. Louis area.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at the chapel of Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville.
Local friends gathered Monday, Sept. 10, for a liturgy/meal to share memories and say their goodbyes.
Pray for us, Tom … and of course, pray for the Cardinals!
