Gary Edmund Indahl

Gary Edmund Indahl, 64, died peacefully in his home Sunday, March 25, 2012, after his battle with cancer.

Gary was born Oct. 19, 1947 in Littlefork, Minn., to Harold and Gladys Indahl, and was raised in Littlefork.

He graduated from Littlefork High School in 1965. Upon graduating, Gary enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served for four years, including serving two tours in northern Vietnam.

Gary was united in marriage to Patricia Dalbacka on Sept. 1, 1972.

Upon discharge from the Marine Corps, Gary returned home and went to work for the Koochiching County Sheriff’s Department where he served for 30 years, retiring as chief deputy. During this time, he was also a volunteer firefighter for 20 years with the International Falls Fire Department. In 2005, he took a job as airport security where he worked until his health declined.

Gary loved hunting and spending time at the hunting shack, golfing with his buddies, reading, watching the History Channel, and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Indahl.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Patricia Indahl; mother, Gladys Indahl of International Falls; son, James Indahl of St. Louis Park, Minn.; daughter, Armeta (Matt) Heald of Forest Lake, Minn.; sister, Shelby (Charles) Boelk of St. Helens, Ore.; and four grandchildren, Victoria, Sarah, Slade and Luke.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Green-Larsen Mortuary.

Memorial services with military rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 29, at Zion Lutheran Church.

Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Gary may be sent to Zion Lutheran Church, Community Cancer Walk or North Star Hospice.
