Glenn Bannert, 84 of Littlefork, Minn., died peacefully Tuesday, March 13, 2012, surrounded by family at Essentia Health St. Mary’s, Duluth, Minn.
He was born Nov. 7, 1927, to William F. and Mae M. (Blankenberg) Bannert in Ramona, S.D.
When Glenn was 15, the family moved to Wabanica Township north of Baudette, Minn.
In 1949, he married Shirlee LaValla and later moved to International Falls.
He went to work for Boise Cascade paper mill in International Falls. He was employed there until the Insulite Division closed in 1984. He moved to Oregon and was employed at the Stimson’s Sawmill until retiring and moving back to Littlefork, Minn., in 1990.
Glenn loved playing and singing old-time music; he played the accordion, piano and guitar all by ear. In his earlier years he formed a band named the “Hotshots” that would play at barn dances and events around the Baudette area.
Some of his other hobbies where camping, cutting pulp and raising cattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don; sister, Irene Toutges; daughter, Sherry; son, Timothy; great granddaughter, Hailey; and his loving companion, Betty Kimball.
Survivors include his daughters, Terri (Urshell) Gerdon of Dilworth, Minn., Joyce (Randy) Hell of International Falls, Minn., and Mary (Bill) Niehaus of Fargo, N.D.; sons, Dennis (Susi) Bannert of International Falls, Minn., Richard Bannert of International Falls, Minn., Robert (Lisa) Bannert of Roseau, Minn., and John Bannert of Warroad, Minn.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Persoon of Iowa; and brother, Ray (Mary) of Ray, Minn.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday March 17, at Littlefork Lutheran Church.
A gathering of friends and family will take place one hour prior to the service in the church.
Burial will be at Elm Park Cemetery, Baudette, Minn.
