Henrietta Marjorie “Marge” Hayward, 87, of International Falls, Minn., died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at her home.
Marge was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Verona, N.J., to John and Rhoda Bean.
She grew up in Livingston, N.J.
She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Hayward, on June 6, 1945, in Livingston. After their marriage they lived at Oxnard, Calif., and Chula Vista, Calif., Naval Air Base. They returned to New Jersey in 1946. They then moved to Hempstead, N.Y., then to W. Orange, N.J. In 1948, they built a house in Livingston, N.J.
Bob’s career took them to Naperville, Ill., in 1966. In 1985 they moved to High Point, N.C., and in 1990, Bob and Marge retired in International Falls, where they have lived since.
Marge worked as a school secretary, and worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories where she was an executive secretary in Naperville, Ill. In North Carolina, she was a department chief at Bell Lab in the CAD-CAM Department.
She was very involved in volunteering at the schools and churches in International Falls and was a supporter of Bronco athletics. She was an avid reader. Marge enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sports locally and at St. John’s University. She loved the Vikings and Twins baseball, spending time outdoors, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, golfing, jogging, boating, and flying with Bob.
She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, the Women’s Elks, the Borderland Humane Society, and the Red Hatters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rhoda Bean; half sister, Edna Rahn; sister, Rhoda Davenport; and brother, Robert Bean.
Marge is survived by husband of 66 years, Robert “Bob” Hayward; daughter, Ellen (Dr. Douglas) Johnson of International Falls, Minn.; grandchildren, Sage Johnson of Duluth, Minn., Kari (Adam) Stromstad of Burnsville, Minn., and Leif (Laurie) Johnson of Minnetonka, Minn; five great-grandchildren, Trygg Douglas Hemstad (8), Signe Lynn Stromstad (4), Baergen Hayward Johnson (4), Dagny Jean Johnson (3), and Soren Leif Stromstad (8 months); and son, Paul (Joyce) Hayward of Missouri.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Faith United Church of Christ, International Falls. A luncheon will follow at the Elk’s Lodge.
