Joan Olson

Joan Sybil Olson, 80, of International Falls, Minn., passed away Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth, Minn.  

Joan was born on Feb. 16, 1932, in Langdon, N.D.

The former Joan Dettler married Kermit Olson on July 14, 1953, in Langdon, N.D.  

She enjoyed crocheting, spending time with family, visiting the casino, and was an active member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.

She loved doing her Sudoku with dad every morning, and liked playing computer games.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Beatrice Dettler; infant daughter, Carol Ann; sister, Ellen; and brother, Leonard.

Joan is survived by her husband, Kermit Olson; sons, Barry (Judy), Brian (JoAnne), Bradley (Chris), Bernard (Gina), Brent, and grandson Christopher (Lindsey) Olson; daughters, Connie Craig, Cathy Lucca, Carla (Tim Rud), Cindy (Frankie Bahr), Colleen (Shane Fish), Carolyn (Steve Eilertson), and granddaughter Erin (Donnie) McClurg; 30 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Aelred Dettler; and sister, Moira Yahna.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Green-Larsen Mortuary with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at St. Thomas Catholic Church.  

Interment will be at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials would be preferred to St. Thomas Catholic School or the Falls Hunger Coalition.
