John Klow

John Charles Klow, 87, of Ranier, Minn., passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at his home.

John was born Sept. 2, 1925, in International Falls, Minn.

He married Lenore (Nell) M. Bradley at St. Thomas Rectory on Dec. 18, 1948.

John served in the United States Marine Corp during the invasion and capture of the island of Iwo Jima. He received a Purple Heart during that battle. He also served in the occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged as Corporal, United States Marine Corp, on March 29, 1946.

He worked at MD&W Railroad from 1947 to 1985, until retiring at age 60, after 38 years of service.

He enjoyed outdoor activities and spending time at the cabin in Northwest Bay and the shack at Kabetogama.

He enjoyed traveling and “their adventures” with Mom after his retirement. They always managed to get into some kind of mischief.

He loved family and friend gatherings and was full of stories that only he could make so funny.

He was a devoted and proud husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, and uncle.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but certainly not forgotten.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore (Nell) Klow; parents, John Klow and Josephine (Klow) Jurisich; infant brother; stepfather, Paul Jurisich; infant daughter; sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine and John Ayers, Florence and Billy Ficke, Jack Strain, Dorothy (DeeJee) and Harlan Johnson; mother and father-in-law, James Ervin and Elizabeth Bradley; sister-in-law, Lorraine Mitchell; and many special friends.

John is survived by sons, John B. (Susan) Klow, Jerry Klow (Holly Holler), Jim (Jan) Klow and Jeff Klow; daughters, Joanie (Bill) Wyatt, Janine Klow (Tom Walter) and Josie (Reid) Toninato; grandchildren, John D. Klow (fiancée Kearstin Richter), Jessica Klow, Justin Klow, Julie (Sean) Love, Jeff Wyatt (fiancé Dara Pagano), Jenny Jungmann, Mike Wyatt, Jeanna Toninato, Joseph Toninato, Courtney Klow, Jake Klow, Jeff Klow, Kathleen Klow and Karin Klow; great-granddaughter, Anika Love; sister, Marian Strain; and many many very special nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial gathering is planned for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Green-Larsen Mortuary.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Green-Larsen Mortuary, with flag presentation.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Interment will take place at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars section of Forest Hill Cemetery.
