John Vedaa

John Martin Vedaa, 74, of Portland, Ore., and former Borderland resident, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, in Oregon.

John was born at Indus, Minn., the son of Hjalmer and Herta Vedaa, on Jan. 25, 1938.

He attended Loman Elementary and Indus High Schools.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1959, and served in the Philippines and Japan. 

He retired from the Operating Engineers Union 701. He was a crane operator and worked on building dams. He worked on the Bonneville Dam and John Day Dam.

John was also a craftsman at woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Walter and Bob.

Survivors include his best friend and companion, Lottie Monen; three sons, John (Brenda) of Ranier, Minn., Don of Milwaukie, Ore., and Dan (Marcia) of Oregon City, Ore.; also, brothers, Dick, Jerry, Norman and Kenneth; and sisters, Virginia Leerssen, JoAnne Amundsen, Audrey Graham and Marilyn Bremermann; granddaughters, Kayla and Morgan; and many nieces and nephews.  

Memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at Green-Larsen Mortuary, International Falls, with flag presentation.
