Julius Urban

Julius Joseph Urban, 86, of Bemidji, Minn., formerly of International Falls, Minn., passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012, in Bemidji.

Julius was born Feb. 25, 1926, in International Falls.

He graduated from Falls High School in the Class of 1944.

He married Gerda Drechsler on May 11, 1947, at United Methodist Church.

He began working for Mando Paper in May of 1944, and retired from Boise Cascade on June 1, 1988, as a rigger and millwright.

He played Bronco basketball at Falls High School. Julius enjoyed softball, bowling leagues, and loved hunting, fishing, and golfing.

He was a member of the BCEC (Boise Cascade Employee Club), and St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Julius was a wonderfully patient and understanding parent to his children, and friend and mentor to his grandchildren. In his later years, Julius was a loving caregiver for his wife Gerda who had Alzheimer’s Disease.

His family will miss his guidance and love and will fondly remember his stories of growing up in International Falls in the 1930s and 1940s.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Julia (Lecznarowicz) Urban; wife, Gerda Urban; brothers, Anton, Kasimier, Edmund, Frank and Joseph Jr.; and infant son, Scott.

Julius is survived by his son, Tim (Lisa) Urban of Bemidji, Minn.; daughter, Sue Mathews of International Falls; three grandchildren, Brian (Stephanie) Mathews, Jacob Urban and Samuel Urban; and brother, Henry (Audrey) Urban of International Falls.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, May 12, at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Memorials in memory of Julius may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Heart Association, or American Cancer Society.
