June Olson

June S. Olson, 79, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, Minn., surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at United Methodist Church, Thief River Falls, with the Rev. Rob Kopp officiating.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Littlefork Lutheran Church, Littlefork, Minn., with the Rev. Andy Berry officiating.

Burial will follow at Oakley Cemetery, Littlefork.

June Sophia Rux was born June 17, 1933, in Reynolds, N.D., the daughter of Walter and Lillie (Lenz) Rux.

She was baptized into the Christian faith Oct. 15, 1933.

At an early age, June moved with her family to a farm in North Township, near Thief River Falls. She attended the North Star Country School in North Township and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.

On Aug. 19, 1951, June was united in marriage to Cecil D. Olson at United Methodist Church, Thief River Falls.

Their relationship blossomed with their letter writing while Cecil was away serving in the military. After their marriage, the couple moved to Oklahoma City which is where Cecil was stationed.

In 1952 they were blessed with a son, Curtis.  

Cecil, June and Curtis returned to live with Walter and Lillie in Thief River Falls for a short time. In 1954 they were blessed with a daughter, Janice, and then the family moved to the Iron Range where Cecil worked in logging.

 In 1958 the family moved to Littlefork, and in 1964 the family was once again blessed with a daughter, Deanne.

June enjoyed raising their children when they were growing up.  he was a mother, a homemaker and worked outside the home. June worked as a waitress, a sales clerk in a variety store, a bookkeeper for a logging business and also worked as a nurse’s aide.

June enjoyed going fishing, working with flowers, bird watching, going to basketball games at the school, and spending time with family and friends.

She was currently a member of Littlefork Lutheran Church, Littlefork, where she enjoyed volunteering on the Altar Guild, helping with the church newsletter and in the kitchen and any other area she may have been asked. 

 She was also a member of the Littlefork Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Cecil passed away in 2002 and June continued to live in Littlefork until October of 2009 when she moved to Thief River Falls.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice (Roger) Ness of Thief River Falls and Deanne (Shaun) Stamnes of Green Bay, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Debbie (Rick) Sherman of Oklee, Minn.; grandchildren, Conway (Kim) Olson of Oklee, Nicosia (Andy) Ubert of Fosston, Minn., Curtis (Jennica) Ness of West Fargo, N.D., Brian Ness of West Fargo, Ryan Sherman of McIntosh, Minn., Jesse (Amy) Sherman of Brooks, Minn., Scott (Amy) Ness of Misawa Air Force Base, Japan, and Roger (Melissa) Ness of Bemidji, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Sidney and Paige Olson, Jack, Nathan, Bentley and Amari Ubert, Jacelynn Ness, Jaelynn Gaulke, Bailey, Shelby, and Ryleigh Sherman, Taylor and Parker Ness, Michael and Nicole Horton and Alison Jones; brother, Clayton (Jean) Rux of Ramsey, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Lillian Rux of Erskine, Minn., Gloria Rux of Thief River Falls, Donna Rux of Thief River Falls, Florence Martine of Bagley, Minn., and Millie Olson of Michigan; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Curtis in 1977; brothers, Floyd, Delmer, Franklin, Orlie and Howard Rux; sister, Wanda Schroeder; and great-grandsons, Lucas Ubert and Zachary Ness.
