Lois Filla

Lois Claire Filla, 90, of Littlefork, Minn., died Thursday morning, July 19, 2012, at Littlefork Care Center.

Lois was born Aug. 12, 1921, in Canby, Minn. She grew up in the Laporte, Minn., area.

Lois married Roman Filla on June 24, 1946, in Bemidji, Minn.

She was a school teacher and taught in Fergus Falls, Minn., three years at Laporte in 1953-1956, teaching first and second grades. She also taught for many years in Littlefork.  

She moved to Littlefork with her family in 1956 and owned and operated the Gambles Hardware Store with her husband, Roman.  

She enjoyed playing cards, spending time outdoors, campfires, swimming, and cross-country skiing.

Her family and friends were very important to her.  Lois and Roman enjoyed traveling to Alaska and salmon fishing, and visiting family in Alaska.

She was a member of St. Columban Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.   

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Julia Shaffer; brother, Norman Shaffer, great-grandson, Tj Treat; and son-in-law, Richard Promersberger.  

Lois is survived by her husband, Roman Filla of Littlefork; son, Jerome (Cheryl) Filla of Laporte, Minn.; daughter, Jacque Promersberger of Littlefork, Minn.; five grandchildren, JoDee (Wally) Treat, Chele (Shane) Ziemba, Joe (RaeAnn) Filla, Monica (Joe DeVargas) Heller and Carrie Filla; and great-grandchildren, Jessica Treat, Cori Treat, Bryce Ziemba, Chelsey Ziemba, Jaden Filla, Leah Maxwell, Jessie Heller, Ashley Heller, Savine Filla and Joselin Filla. 

Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 23, at St. Columban Catholic Church, Littlefork, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary and visitation beginning at 10. 

Interment will be at Oakley Cemetery, Littlefork.
