Mildred “Millie” Robinson (Shannon) died at the age of 90 on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Rainy Lake Medical Center, International Falls, Minn.
Millie was born March 10, 1922, in Stearns County, on a farm near Brooten, Minn., to Egbert Van de Streek and Effie Stavenger Van de Streek.
She was baptized on Easter Sunday of that year at the Presbyterian Church in Brooten.
She attended school in Ash Creek, Minn., and Lismore, Minn. In 1938 the family moved to a farm Southwest of Thief River Falls, Minn.
On Nov. 2, 1941, she was married to Durlyn James Robinson. They lived on a farm south of Fergus Falls and then on a farm East of Thief River Falls, Minn., until Durlyn was drafted in the United States Navy. She followed Durlyn to Cour de Alene, Idaho and Los Angeles, Calif.
After World War II they returned to Thief River Falls where they lived until 1986 when they moved to a home on Jesse Lake, north of Deer River, Minn. They lived there in the summer and spent winters in Donna, Texas.
Millie was a homemaker until 1964 and then she worked as a nursing assistant at Oakland Park Nursing Home and at the hospital and then as a home health aide for Pennington County, Minn.
She was active in P.T.A., a Girl Scout leader and Den Mother for Boy Scouts.
She was an active member at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, Jesse Lake Lutheran Church in Talmoon, Minn., and recently First Lutheran Church in International Falls, Minn.
She was an avid quilter and helped to make quilts for missions and last year she also made quilts for her nine great-grand children.
Millie married William (Bill) Shannon on June 30, 2001, and they lived in Donna, Texas and Cohasset, Minn.
Millie is survived by her children, Ila Jean (Luther) Hanson of Urbandale, Iowa, James (Carol Hafdahl) Robinson of Granbury, Texas, and Linda (James) Sutch of International Falls, Minn.; her grandchildren, Deanna Hanson (Derrick) Abromeit, Andrew (Emily Jacobsen) Hanson, Donna Parker, Bradley (Michelle Dostal) Hanson, Adam Sutch, Christian (Sara Moore) Sutch, Darren (Krysten Mc Afee) Robinson and Carrie (Brandon) Neal; her great-grandchildren, Alyssa Hanson, Lily Hanson Abromeit, Isaac Hanson, Elliott Hanson Abromeit, Benjamin Hanson, Samuel Hanson, Sarah Hanson and Braden Neal; her sisters, Ruth Roos, Dorothy Morehouse, June (Kenny) Jorgensen, Barb (Dennis) Nelson and Muriel Wavra; brother, Edward Van de Streek; sisters-in-law, Frances Torbeck, Marky Van de Streek and Betty Shannon; and many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her step children, Molly Gores, Daniel (Laurel) Shannon, Laurie (Dale) Hanson; step son-in-law, Patrick Trudel; 13 step-grandchildren and many step great-grandchildren.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Durlyn Robinson; husband, William Shannon; son, Glen Allen Robinson; sister, Evelyn Swanson; brother, Harold; and step daughter, Kathleen Trudel.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mildred is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at First Lutheran Church, International Falls, Minn.
Interment of her ashes will be Wednesday, July 11, at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
