Minnie Lorraine Eggebroten, 98, of Littlefork, Minn., died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Rainy Lake Medical Center.
Minnie was born Nov. 15, 1914, at her parents’ home in Littlefork.
She grew up in Littlefork and graduated from Littlefork High School in the Class of 1932.
She married Irwin A.L. Eggebroten on Sept. 7, 1934, in Bemidji, Minn.
They moved to Washington in 1956, and in 1966, moved to Alaska. They started building their Minnesota home after 1978. They returned to the Forsythe community near Littlefork in 1984.
Minnie worked on the Alcan Highway during World War II in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
She was a pianist and Sunday School teacher at Littlefork Baptist Church, and sang and played special music at area churches.
She helped manage the Co-op store in the early 1950s.
Minnie was a surrogate mother to many children in the Littlefork area.
She was also a weather recorder at Cape Yakataga, Alaska, for FAA.
She ran a wilderness lodge for geologists doing oil exploration and hunters during the 70s, and held a gold claim in Cape Yakataga, Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Irwin A.L. Eggebroten; parents, Fred and Minnie L. Gatchall; sisters, Carol Bishop, Mirla Gatchall and Shirley Gatchall; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Mary Eggebroten; nephew, Henry Dale Eggebroten; two infant brothers; and daughter-in-law, Sharron Eggebroten.
Minnie is survived by her sons, Albert “Sonny” Eggebroten and Larry (Heidi) Eggebroten of Sequim, Wash.; daughter, Janet Jones of Arlington, Wash.; Jack L. Jones of Bow, Wash.; 11 grandchildren: Buddy, Robert, Duane, Floyd, Lee and Lon Eggebroten, Lex Jones, Dawna McGill, William Jones, Jenny McKenzie and Janey Sonsteng; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nephews, Jim Tompkins, of Tacoma, Wash., and John Tompkins of Richland, Wash.; and niece, Miriam Dressel of Michigan.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Green-Larsen Mortuary, International Falls.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Littlefork Baptist Church.
Interment will be at Oakley Cemetery.
