'Molly' Marlene Florence Dougherty

“Molly” Marlene Florence Dougherty, 58, of Birchdale, Minn., went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at her home.

Molly was born Oct. 27, 1954, in International Falls.

She grew up in Indus, Minn., graduated from Indus High School, then graduated from the Hibbing Votech College beautician program in 1971.

On April 8, 1972, the former Marlene Mai married Gary Dougherty in Birchdale, Minn. They moved to Oregon in 1974 and in 2002 returned to Indus.

While they resided in Oregon, Molly drove school bus in Hillsboro, Ore., ran a wreath shop, and also drove firefighters up in the mountains to fight fires.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, hobby farming, making creative gardens and Christmas and Disneyland time. She enjoyed antiquing, going to thrift stores, and making maple syrup.

Molly was active in the Birchdale Community Center, was a member of the Birchdale Congregational Church, the Ladies Aids, and Birthday Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Florence Mai; and brother, Karl Mai.

Molly is survived by her husband, Gary L. Dougherty; son, Nickolaus Dougherty of International Falls; daughters, Jennifer (Heithem Swedan) Dougherty of Birchdale, and Kristi Dougherty of International Falls; three grandchildren, Seth Almquist, Emily Almquist and Jerimiah Dougherty; siblings, Lylia Timmer of Littlefork, Minn., Bonnie (Dave) Griffen of Birchdale, Walter (Lynda) Mai of International Falls, Arthur (Marilyn) Mai of Indus, Jody (Bill) Knapp of Ray, Minn., and Peter (Shelly) Mai of Big Falls, Minn.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at United Congregational Church, Birchdale.
