Phyllis Anderson

Phyllis June Anderson, 90, of Andover, Minn., formerly of International Falls, Minn., passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012.

She was born July 24, 1922, in Alberton, Ontario, to Nettie (Eide) and Henry Peterson.

She graduated from Littlefork High School and later served in World War II in the Marine Corps.

Phyllis married Irvin (Irv) Anderson on Dec. 7, 1945, in Seattle, Wash., and subsequently resided in Corpus Christie, Texas, where Irv was stationed as a Navy pilot.

After the end of the war, they returned to International Falls to raise their family.

Phyllis worked as a sales clerk at Stevenson’s department store for many years.

Phyllis was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

She loved gardening, needlework, painting and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Phyllis was also very supportive of Irv’s long service as a state representative and as Speaker of the House in the Minnesota State Legislature by assisting in campaigns, DFL events, and fundraisers.

Survivors include children, Greg (Becky) of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Cindy (Randy) Kevern of Ham Lake, Minn.; grandchildren, Chad (Sarah) Anderson of Libertyville, Ill., Chris Anderson of Chicago, Ill., Caitlin (Scott) Seath of St. Paul, Minn., and Sarah Anderson of Brandon, Manitoba; great-grandchildren Liam, Lila and Maggie; her sister, Cleo Becker of Watsonville, Calif.; her brother, Merwin Peterson of San Diego, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irv; parents; brother, Reynold (Speed) Peterson; and sister, Marne Butler.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at Green-Larsen Mortuary, International Falls.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, International Falls.

Interment will be at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.
