Richard P. “Rick” Olson, 55, of International Falls, Minn., died Thursday morning, March 14, 2013, at Rainy Lake Medical Center.
Rick was born Aug. 15, 1957, in International Falls, to Philip and Marlys (Breske) Olson.
He graduated from Falls High School in 1975, and in 1977 graduated from Hibbing Area Vocational Technical Institute with a chef and restaurant management degree.
He was an award-winning chef and co-owner of The Spot Supper Club.
He was also a volunteer South International Falls firefighter and acting chief.
He loved collecting antique firefighting memorabilia and redecorating and remodeling The Spot and the garage into a museum.
Rick was united in marriage to Susan "Sue" Trompeter on Jan. 19, 1979, at Zion Lutheran Church.
Rick loved his family deeply and was excited to be able to share trips to Hawaii, Disneyland, Disney World and Denver.
He was thrilled to be a new grandpa to Baby Beatrix.
He enjoyed cooking, hunting, and fishing.
Rick loved to share his love of food with anyone he met. He introduced prime rib to The Spot customers upon graduating from chef school.
He loved camping on Morson Point on Lake of the Woods, hunting on Promersberger’s Road and Pine Island, fishing on Rainy Lake, and the many trips in their motorhomes and campers.
He was an accomplished woodworker, and could make anything.
Rick was an entrepreneur, and was always thinking up something to do to help his family.
He made friends wherever he went and was willing to lend a hand to anyone.
He was preceded in death by his father, Philip Olson.
Rick is survived by his wife, Sue Olson of Internationll Falls; mother, Marlys Olson; daughters, Rachel Wendy Marie Olson of International Falls and Sara Beth Olson (George Hild); and granddaughter, Beatrix Evelyn Hild.
He had many wonderful friends and relatives.
Memorial services are planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, at Zion Lutheran Church.
Suggested memorials are to Zion Lutheran Building Fund or New Good Samaritan Center Landscaping Fund.
