Roy Wilbur Tilander, 86, of Littlefork, Minn., passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, at St. Mary’s Essentia Health, Duluth, Minn.
Roy was born Oct. 19, 1925, in Ray, Minn. He was a lifelong resident of the area.
Roy served in the United States Navy.
He married Alice Pelland on May 12, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls.
He worked for Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific Railway, retiring from the railroad as a section foreman.
Roy loved to fish, hunt, and trap; he enjoyed gardening, four wheeling, camping, and blueberry picking. He was an avid outdoorsman.
His grandchildren were very special to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Charlotte Tilander; son, Roy Edward; brothers, Ted, Carl, Bert, Dick and Ralph; and sister, Arlene Salmi.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Alice Tilander of Littlefork; sons, Wayne (Diane) of International Falls and Jim (Vicki) of Ray; daughter, Terrie Tilander of International Falls; grandchildren, Russell (Danita) Tilander, Troy (Jennifer) Tilander, Tracy Tilander, Tara Tilander, Shayna Romich and Jodi (Raoul Lufbery) Tilander; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob (Arlys) Tilander of Oregon, and Wilbur (Sherry) Tilander of Ray, Minn.; sisters, May Bancroft, Bernice Fults and Ione Tilander, all of International Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the 3 p.m. funeral service Friday, June 15, at Northwoods Bible Church, Ray, Minn., with military rites.
Interment will be at Ray Cemetery.
