Diane Edens shot this photo Aug. 17 of a doe and two fawns just across from the Ranier Beach, in what she calls “The Garden of Eden”, her garden. Edens said she and her family have seen the deer tracks all summer, but this was the first time they came to raid the garden while the family was in the yard. “Even though they have been hanging out in Ranier all summer they have only taken what they can eat out of the garden and left more than enough for us,” she noted. “The good news is, I don’t have to spend the entire weekend canning pickled beets. They ate all the tops off our onions, love the beets, carrots, peas and even the tomatoes. Well actually they like everything which grows in the garden. It’s my husband, Mike’s garden, and he said he doesn’t mind sharing with the deer. He said, ‘She’s just feeding the kids.’ They are just too cute to chase away.”
