Sigrid “Sig” Johanna (Sihvonen) Laitala peacefully passed away Monday, April 9, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas, after a brief illness. She was 98 years old.
She was born Aug. 23, 1912, in International Falls, Minn.
Mrs. Laitala was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ida (Parrika) Sihvonen; her husband, Ero E. “Lait” Laitala; and her brother, Sulo Victor Sihvonen.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and “a pack” of great- and great-great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted on the 100th anniversary of her birth, at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at First Lutheran Church, International Falls.
Interment at Forest Hill Cemetery will follow a reception at the church.
