Former Minnesota resident, Warner A. “Bud” La Du, 84, passed away as a result of heart failure Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at Mission Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Las Vegas, Nevada.

He was born Oct. 11, 1927, to F. Warner and Hazel (Crowe) La Du, in International Falls, Minn., where he attended local schools.

After high school graduation, Warner worked for two years at the Minnesota Dakota and Western Railway.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and, upon his return to the U.S., studied at the Minneapolis School of Business. He held bookkeeping positions in Cincinnati and Minneapolis before moving to Las Vegas in 1973. There he made his home for the rest of his life, and worked as a bookkeeper at the Lady Luck Casino until his retirement.

Warner is remembered as a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humor.

He enjoyed reading, playing Scrabble and other board games, taking long walks, and listening to music, especially jazz and big band swing songs performed by his favorite musicians, Sarah Vaughn, Billy Eckstine and George Shearing.

Warner is survived by his sister, Frances (La Du) Peterson (late Bill) and niece, Francie Anderson (Mark), both of St. Peter, Minn.; nephews, Robin Saunders (Dianne), Pembroke, Canada, Dr. Scott Saunders (Stephenie), St. Louis, Mo., and Dennis Peterson (Nancy), Ames, Iowa.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Audrey Saunders (late Bill).

The family is grateful to staff of Mission Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Odyssey Hospice in Las Vegas for Warner’s care in the last years of his life.

A private family memorial service will take place later this spring at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
