Grant recipients

Representatives of organizations that benefited from Otto Bremer Foundation grant dollars in 2012 gathered for a meeting last week to share progress and ideas.

Ten organizations serving our area received grants totaling $622,640 from the Otto Bremer Foundation in 2012. Programs and projects benefiting all ages from youth to elders were supported in an effort to enrich and expand services for those who need them.

Representatives of the grantees met last week to share progress and ideas.

Grant recipients were Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency, Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, Citizens for Backus AB, city of International Falls, the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, Ninth Judicial District Court, Koochiching County, Northeast Entrepreneur Fund, Inc., Northland Foundation, United Way of Northeastern Minnesota and Women’s Health Center of Duluth, PA.

This was the largest annual amount received from the foundation, according to Myrna Meadows, Bremer nonprofit resource specialist. Tony Palm, vice president and business banker, thanked attendees for the good work being done in our communities and noted that the funds originate with Bremer Bank profits.

The Otto Bremer Foundation is a private charitable foundation established in 1944 to assist people in achieving economic, civic and social participation for the betterment of their communities. Preference is given to areas served by Bremer banks.
