Television appearance 6 p.m. Wednesday; award luncheon Nov. 17
Suzie Best, 2009 International Falls Citizen of the Year, will soon be honored in the Seventh Annual Northland's NewsCenter Women in Leadership Awards as an International Falls community champion.
Best, a senior account executive for Charter Media, will be honored at a luncheon Nov. 17 and will be featured on Duluth-based television station.
“I owe a lot to my job,” Best said. “It lets me do a lot in the community.”
Best is one of the coordinators of the annual Rockin’ for a Reason breast cancer fundraiser, chairman of the International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and vice president of the International Falls Bass Championship.
Best said she was humbled to be recognized. “It’s crazy to me in my mind,” she said. “There are so many people who do so many great things in the community.”
Best will be featured at 6 p.m. Wednesday on KBJR Channel 6 the Northland’s Newscenter as part of the series on the award winners.
Ten women have been selected for this year's awards from submissions received during the past year. They will be honored at a luncheon at Greysolon Plaza in Duluth Nov. 17.
This Women in Leadership Award is designed to recognize outstanding women's achievements. It is awarded to women who excel in uncommon leadership and provide positive role models.
Other award winners include Jinell Abernethy, Duluth business woman; Karen Diver, Fond du Lac Band tribal leader; Evdoxia Gerogeorge, retired educator; Anna Gybina, pediatrics hospital volunteer; Debbie Isabell-Nelson, Morgan Park community champion; Cookie Kari, Proctor community champion; Stephanie LaFleur, child care provider; Kim Lind, Cloquet community champion and Suzanne Olson, Superior firefighter.
The keynote speaker of the luncheon will be retired Chief Master Sergeant Jodi L. Stauber of the 148th Fighter Wing, Minnesota Air National Guard, Duluth. Stauber is now a civilian working with the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program, which provides information, services, referrals and proactive outreach programs to service members of the National Guard and Reserves and their families through all phases of the deployment cycle.
