Koochiching County commissioners will review Tuesday in committee session a request by Boise Inc. to vacate a portion of County State Aid Highway 332 known as the Burner Road.
The county board meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:50 a.m. in the courthouse boardroom. The meeting follows a meeting of the Koochiching Development Authority, which is made up of commissioners. The KDA Board meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. and address routine business. An agenda is considered tentative until the government body begins the meeting and makes additions or deletions to the proposed agenda.
Commissioners are scheduled to review the vacation request at 11:05 a.m. The board heard little input from the public about the request to make the Burner Road a private road for use by Boise and International Bildrite traffic.
But some people, including Board Chairman Brian McBride, who represents residents in the Burner Road area, said he knows that several residents oppose vacation of the road.
At the hearing, commissioners heard from Lori Lyman, Boise public affairs manager, and Dennis Kennedy, company process center supervisor. The pair said the company would be willing to consider options other than vacation.
In other business Tuesday, the board is scheduled to consider at 10:05 a.m. a request to fill a full-time assistant custodian position. The position will be left vacant May 1 with the employment separation of Terry Shoquist.
At 10:10 a.m., the board is expected to seek bids for bituminous overlays of county roads.
At 10:35 a.m., the board is scheduled to review funding for a Voyageurs National Park water basin sewer project with representatives of Short Elliott Hendrickson, the engineering firm working on the project that involves communities surrounding the park.
A public comment period, when the public may address the board on any topic, is scheduled to follow the water basin sewer project discussion.
