Photo club
Northwoods Shutterbug Photo Club will meet at 6 p.m. today in the basement of International Falls Public Library. Everyone is welcome to attend.
NDSU representative
A representative from the Office of Admission at North Dakota State University will visit Falls High School at 9 a.m. Dec. 20. The representative will help high school students learn about earning a degree from one of the premier universities in the region. Information will be shared about NDSU’s leading academic programs, admission requirements, cost, financial aid and how students can get involved in nearly 300 student organizations. Holiday hours
Holiday hours for Voyageurs National Park’s Rainy Lake Visitor Center will be as follows: Christmas Eve, Monday, closed; Christmas Day, Tuesday, closed; Dec. 26-30, open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; New Year’s Eve Day, Dec. 31, closed; New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, closed. Regular winter hours resume Jan. 3. The visitor center is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 to 4:30. Over the holiday season, visitors are welcome to hike a trail, watch the park’s film, attempt the junior ranger program, and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa. Call the visitor center for details at 286-5258.
MPR tower work
Beginning mid week, MPR News and Classical MPR stations serving the area will be operating at a very low power preventing the signal from being properly transmitted to radios or may be shut down periodically during daylight for brief or extended periods as tower work is conducted. HD service will also be impacted. The tower work should be completed by the end of December. Service impacted includes 88.1 MPR News and 97.7 Classical MPR. During the repairs to the signal, area listeners are encouraged to stream favorite shows and breaking news online at mpr.org. VFW Christmas party
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2948 will host a Christmas party for children and grandchildren of Post and Ladies Auxiliary members beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Post Home, 1416 Third Ave. W. Treats and beverages will be served and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus will be featured.
Book club
Rainy River Book Club will meet at noon Saturday at Lenard’s. Book for discussion is “Frozen” by local author Mary Casanova.
Class of 1962
Falls High School Class of 1962 will meet for a Christmas potluck luncheon at noon Thursday at the home of Jeannine Nelson.
School conferences
Falls High School teachers will be available for parent-teacher conferences from 5 to 7 p.m. today and Thursday. Stop in the office upon arrival to pick up information.
Loon-a-Ticks luncheon
The Red Hat Loon-a-Ticks will meet for a Christmas luncheon at noon Monday at Lenard’s.
‘Skate with Santa’
International Falls Figure Skating Club will host a Christmas “Skate with Santa” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Bronco Arena. The public is encouraged to wear Christmas colors, Santa hats, elf hats, reindeer antlers, etc., and bring cameras. Non-perishable food items or monetary donations will be collected for the local Food Shelf. Cookies and hot cocoa will be served. The event is open to the public. (No sticks or pucks allowed).
