Briggs Anderson, 14, of Fergus Falls, died Monday after being found floating and unresponsive in Rainy Lake, according to the Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a report, officials received a 911 call at 6:22 p.m. that assistance was needed in the Diamond Island area of Rainy Lake in Voyageurs National Park. Anderson was transported to Rainy Lake Medical Center and later air lifted to Duluth where he died.

The Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Border Patrol and the International Falls ambulance responded to the call. Rescue officials were assisted by other boaters in the area who heard the distress call. The incident is under investigation.
